Nurse Practitioners
Our Nurse Practitioners at Cardiac
Specialists are all master-prepared, board certified nurses who work
in close collaboration with our cardiologists to provide
comprehensive cardiac care.
Nurse Practitioners are Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs)
with extensive backgrounds in cardiac intensive nursing and focus
their practice on health promotion, disease prevention and
management, health education and health counseling.
Our Nurse Practitioners provide a wide range of services including:

Evaluation and
management with follow-up of hypertension, congestive heart
failure, arrhythmias and high cholesterol

Provide
anticoagulation (coumadin and lovenox) education, initiation and
maintenance
-
Evaluation and
management of pacemaker, defibrillator and heart failure
devices. Our electrophysiology nurse practitioner is board
certified in this specialty and works in close collaboration
with our electrophysiologists to provide the best integrated
therapies available

Perform all
aspects of stress testing including nuclear stress tests, stress
echocardiograms, regular exercise stress tests and
PET/dipyridamole stress tests, and CT Coronary Angiograms

Provide
physical exams, diagnose and treat acute and chronic diseases,
interpret laboratory and test results, prescribe and manage
medications and other therapies all with an emphasis on health
maintenance and disease prevention
Nurse Practitioners Biographies
Kathleen Bonaventura (Kathy Rae) MSN, APRN, BC
has 21 years of critical care experience (Medical, Surgical and
Coronary Intensive Care and Emergency Room) and 8 years of
cardiology experience with Cardiac Specialists. She works
collaboratively with Dr Banker, our electrophysiologist, in caring
for patients with pacemakers, defibrillators, and heart failure
devices. She is certified in the area of electrophysiology and will
often see patients in follow up and on an urgent basis. Kathleen is
an adjunct faculty member at Sacred Heart University and teaches
Cardiovascular Assessment and Congestive Heart Failure to APRN
students.
Pam McLaughlin
Pam has been certified as Adult Nurse Practitioner since 2000
having reived her Masters Degree in Nursing,Magna Cum Laude from
Western Connecticut State University in 1999. Pam closely
collaborates with the management of patients with all of the
physicians at Cardiac Specialists and has particular interest in
congestive heart failure, hypertension, post angioplasty/stent,
exercise prescription and cardiac risk factor modification, and our
anticoagulation clinic.Pam also works part-time at Bridgeport
Hospital where she sees patients from Cardiac Specialists who are
having procedures.
Ann P. Corkery RN MBA, MSN, APRN, BC
has over 30 years of nursing experience. Ann is the Clinical
Director of our Cardiodiagnostic Center. There, she is able to
combine her love of nursing with her management expertise.
