Dr. Robert Fishman named 'Physician of the Year'
Dr. Robert Fishman, a member of
Cardiac Specialists for more than 10 years, has been named
Bridgeport Hospital 'Physician of the Year.' This is based upon the
input of the many patients he has cared for at the hospital and the
opinions of his medical colleagues.
Dr. Robert Fishman receives certification in Endovascular
Medicine from the American Board of Vascular Medicine
Dr. Robert Fishman has received certification in Endovascular
Medicine from the American Board of Vascular Medicine. This
certifies specialized training in treating patients with peripheral
vascular disease - patients with blockages in the arteries and veins
in the legs which might prevent them from walking, in the kidneys
which may cause poorly controlled blood pressure and impaired kidney
function, and the arteries in the neck which can cause stroke. He,
along with Dr. Edward Tuohy and Dr. Robert Timmermans, are expertly
trained to diagnose these problems, treat them medically, and
perform interventions to restore normal blood flow without resorting
to risky surgery.
Dr. Adam Schussheim is named Medical Director of the first
Cardiovascular PET/CT Center in Fairfield County
Dr. Adam Schussheim has been named Medical Director of HealthCenter
Imaging and is heading up our program in cardiovascular PET/CT. This
is the only dedicated cardiovascular PET/CT center in Fairfield
County and the only one able to perform cardiac stress tests with
PET imaging. PET has unsurpassed accuracy and detail and is
particularly helpful in patients who have had equivocal non-invasive
studies in the past or are felt to be better suited to PET imaging.
The Ultrafast PET/CT scanner can also look inside the heart
(coronary) arteries with CT coronary angiograms - detecting plaques
and blockages before they cause a heart attack. We can also perform
a quick HeartScan which can detect minute calcium deposits inside
the heart arteries and help you and your physician guide preventive
measures. This again gives early, non-invasive detection of
atherosclerosis (plaque blocking arteries). Discuss these new
exciting technologies with your physicians.
Cardiac Specialists Receives Dual Certification in
Echocardiographyand Nuclear Cardiology
We are very pleased to announce that Cardiac Specialists received
certification from the Intersocietal Commission for the
Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL). This is an
independent body established to insure quality and adherence to the
highest practice standards. As you know, we have been a leading
nuclear cardiology center in Connecticut for over 25 years. This
latest accomplishment is a testimony to our commitment to excellent
service.
We are currently the only accredited laboratory in Fairfield County
and one of the few facilities in Connecticut with dual accreditation
in both nuclear cardiology and in echocardiography.
Cardiac Specialists Begins Placement of ‘Re-Synchronization’
Pacemaker for Congestive Heart Failure
Pacemaker therapy for patients with congestive heart failure
is an exciting new advance which may increase quality of life and
exercise capacity in properly selected individuals. Specially
designed pacemakers are now available and approved by the FDA. Dr.
Jeffrey Banker, our electrophysiologist, has brought this exciting
procedure to Fairfield County and was the first to place these
devices at Bridgeport Hospital.
